Mother’s Day

I try to be mindful about planting native perennials in my gardens but sometimes the eyes win. I love peonies, both of my grandmas had peonies in their gardens and I remember how lucky I felt to get to see and smell them bloom. I was fortunate enough to get a part of a plant from my mother’s peony that she had a cut from her mother’s peony. It truly is a heritage plant. As I watch them just starting to grow out of the ground I was inspired to illustrate the plant. I will see them finally reach their bloom in mid to late June. As they bloom I think of my mother and all that she has provided and done for me. I also think of my grandmother and remember the ways she would care for us. Only four to five weeks away until I see them bloom, fortunately I’ll be done with this illustration in a few days.
